Public Education

The Clarksville-Montgomery County School System has a focused effort on improving student achievement for the more than 30,000 pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade students it serves. Great gains have been made since the beginning of this initiative, which began over 10 years ago. Test scores continue to rise for students in every grade level in nearly every subject area in every classroom across the district. Graduation rates have improved and the school district has been recognized nationally for its academic and professional development achievements. Currently CMCSS boasts a 94% graduation rate with the number steadily rising each year.

Higher Education

Austin Peay State University

Established in 1927 with 158 students, APSU student enrollment now tops 11,000. Students at Austin Peay can choose from numerous programs and concentrations to earn an associate, bachelor’s, master’s or education specialist degree. The University also offers numerous online courses and online programs.

The University has a premier science facility, the Sundquist Science Complex, featuring more than 180,000 square feet of classroom, laboratory, and research.

The Joe Morgan University Center is at the heart of campus, and the facility provides a food court, cafeteria, and various meeting areas. In 2007, APSU opened the $11 million Foy Fitness and Recreation Center, which features a rock-climbing wall, 10,000 square feet of fitness space and outdoor pool. In spring 2009, the University opened a $4.7 million education facility at nearby Fort Campbell, Kentucky. It is the only stand-alone higher education facility on post. 

APSU has an accelerated bachelor’s in professional studies, allowing students with an Associate of Applied Science degree to complete a bachelor’s degree in 14 months. Minors in real estate, Asian studies, geographic information systems, dance, and global security studies also have been added. APSU’s M.S. in Management has expanded students to earn the degree online or on campus in as little as one year. An M.A. in curriculum and instruction began in Fall 2007.

APSU boasts two Centers of Excellence - the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts and the Center of Excellence for Field Biology.

The Clarksville-Montgomery County Industrial Development Board (IDB) is pleased to announce Agero, Inc. (Agero) is expanding its call center operation and strengthening its presence in Clarksville, with a capital investment of $2 Million and the creation of 900 jobs. The state-of-the-art call center, established in 2012, provides critical roadside assistance and safety and security services.
